Special Session on “Quality and Service-Oriented Applications”

Elisabetta Di Nitto, Raffaela Mirandola (Politecnico di Milano)
Bernd Reuther, Markus Hillenbrand (University of Kaiserslautern)

Call for Papers (PDF)

The Service Oriented Architectural (SOA) paradigm foresees the creation of applications by composing independently developed services that are available on a network. Applications built on services face different challenges that are being studied in the community. Two of the most important ones concern the need for guaranteed end-to-end quality of service and to evolve over their long lifetimes.

This special session has the goal to point out the overall challenges and problems of the service-oriented approach, but also show the new ideas, solutions and practices that allow developers, users, and maintainers to foresee the impact of design decisions and evolutionary changes to the system on its overall quality of service and on its internal quality properties such as maintainability.

The aim of the session is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to improve the theories, technologies, and processes in service-oriented software development. We encourage submissions of both theoretical and experience reports from academia and especially from industry. Suggested areas of interest include, but are not restricted to:

● Service Dependability, Security, and Quality of Service
          (metrics, methods, algorithms, ...)
● Service-oriented engineering for ensuring end-to-end quality
          (methods and tools)
● Service Monitoring and Evaluation
(parameters, tools, trend analysis and prediction, ...)
● Engineering evolvable Service Orchestration and Workflows
(languages, tools, determination of properties, ...)
● Applications and Middleware
(specific designs, new fields of application, performance evaluations, ...)

Submission of papers for publication with IEEE/CS:

Papers should not exceed 8 pages (in IEEE/CS proceedings format; 10pt, single-space, double-column) or 6000 words and include an abstract of up to 150 words. If accepted, papers must be personally presented at the Euromicro SEAA 2008 Conference by the author or one of the co-authors.

The presenting author(s) must pre-register (full fee) for Euromicro SEAA 2008 before the due date of the Camera-ready paper.

Authors are encouraged to submit a PDF version of their paper to http://em2008.uni-kl.de/conftool/.
