Like many townships, the city of Kaiserslautern faces new serious challenges: “The society’s obsolescence and individualization”, “ Globalization and structural changes” – the headwords’ list is long.
The changes make radical adjustements and new strategic solutions necessary and will influence different aspects, e.g. economy, technology and society. The evaluation of the consequence for Kaiserslautern, is a main part of the interdisciplinary project StadtTechnopole.
Goal
The city of Kaiserslautern has realized the importance of the identified challenges. The researchers’ group of the University analyses the French strategic framework “Technopole”. This concept is orientated to the development of high-tech enterprises and integrates also general town planning aspects and special economic demands. The starting point presents for this interdisciplinary approach is the expertise StadtTechnopole.
The economy, and especially the new high-tech industries, influences strongly the way we live and work in a region. That’s why Kaiserslautern focuses on endogenous technologic competences in the sectors which have a high impact on the future and will guarantee economic stability. Moreover, the needs must include the development of the technology and the demand for different utilizations. The evaluation of a region from a highly-qualified worker point of view, must include habitation quality as well as possibilities for formation, free-time and culture.
