The MEMORY projekt is located in the e-learning and virtual campus area. In this field many shortcomings can be observed, concerning standardized retrieval and management of e-learning content which has to be delivered to the learner.
Goal
Memory tries to overcome these shortcomings through the development of appropiate methods and principles to create, store and retrieve structured content modules. On the basis of these modules, an open and scalable repository will be designed which helps reusing the managed content modules or rearranging them in new presentations. One goal e.g. is to automatically generate paths through an module based e-learning document which depend on the knowledge of the reader or his favourite way of reading content.
To achieve these goals, the module repository will also hold metadata (besides the real content, also called "essence", e.g. images, text, videos). This metadata will describe the corresponding content and help searching multimedia content like audio and video files. It can also support the adaptation to specific user needs.
Through this the repository will differ noticeably from existing, more static oriented systems due to its dynamic components. The repository will be (following the open source principle) open and available for all interested in e-learning content.
To ensure the quality of the delivered content despite the open architecture of the repository, it is planned that all inserted content will undergo international review processes.
